Marie-Hélène Prémont grabs gold at World Cup race, riding new XTR
28/06/2006
Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada
Mont Sainte-Anne, Canada, was the site of a thrilling victory for Olympic Silver Medalist Marie-Hélène Prémont (Team Rocky Mountain/Business Objects) who rode to gold on Sunday, June 25.

In her first race competing with the complete 2007 Shimano XTR components, Prémont made the most of her home advantage to come out on top of eternal rival Gunn-Rita Dahle. The 250 UCI points catapult her above the German Sabine Spitz for the second place spot in the UCI World Cup rankings.

“To be able to get great results in major events, it is important to have a solid team and good sponsors around you,” stated Prémont. “Being able to compete using the complete new XTR components was no doubt a part of my success.”

Prémont’s fantastic finish is the latest in recent victories for the new Shimano XTR series. Earlier this spring, Adam Craig (Team Giant) and Walker Ferguson (Team Scott/Spinner) won the Sea Otter Classic pro short track events in California, USA, riding 2007 prototype Shimano XTR.

In April, at the start of the 2006 World Cup cross-country season in Curaçao, Bart Brentjens (Giant Racing Team) beat world champion Julien Absalon after a challenging race. Brentjens was riding prototype XTR wheels and pedals that were supplied to him just the night before.

The Shimano XTR 2007 series will be available this October. For more information visit www.shimano.com
